Jesus' Ministry on earth was anchored on three key precepts:
- He fed the hungry and the poor, thereby demonstrating the power of God to provide your earthly needs.
- He healed the sick, thereby demonstrating the power of God over sicknesses.
- He cast out demons, thereby demonstrating the power of God over Satan.
He did not do these things because He wanted to proof only that He was God. He did them to set a pattern, a standard, if you would, that those who will come after Him must follow. It follows therefore that any message of salvation that does not include all of the above, is not complete. In Isaiah 61, the purpose that Jesus had to come is completely spelt out, and if you looked quite closely, you would realize that all of the above facts are fully captured in His Mission Statement.
WHAT WE DO
Our statement of purpose is rooted in Matthew 25:35:
"For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; 36naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.' Then the righteous will answer Him, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? 'When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?' "The King will answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.'
WHAT THEN IS SALVATION WITHOUT TAKING CARE OF THE NEEDY?
ENOUGH OF PREACHING, TIME TO ACT
I personally believe we have preached enough. It's time to act. The tendency is for you to think somebody else will do it. If every believer thinks somebody else will do it, nothing will get done. Nothing will get done until you reading this accept that it's your responsibility to do it. By the way, if you are waiting until you get that big job with fat pay to start helping, you would never help. If you are thinking that you have to have so much or reach a particular group of people before you start helping, it would never happen.
Any help you render that does not cost you something is not sacrificial. For the most part, what touches the heart of God is when you render sacrifical services for the sake of the Kingdom of God.
If God drops it in your heart to help a child, or sponsor a specific program for the needy, look up to the right column on how you can do that.
